Clinical Trials

We believe that patients undergoing stem cell transplantation and treatment for acute leukemia receive the best care at centers actively engaged in high quality clinical research. Our physicians have extensive experience conducting laboratory and clinical research in the field of transplantation and leukemia care, and have published their findings in leading biomedical journals. We participate in the National Cancer Institute(NCI) sponsored Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMTCTN), a working group of the nation's leading transplant centers that conduct clinical trials to pioneer better ways to perform transplants. In addition to clinical trials initiated by our center, we also collaborate with large cooperative cancer groups like CALGB and other major transplant centers such as the Johns Hopkins transplant and leukemia programs.

Our own research initiatives and collaborations allow us to provide patients with access to the most promising new drugs, biologics, and cellular therapies. Our current clinical trials encompass a wide range of diseases and include studies of transplants using unrelated and mismatched-related donors, cord blood transplantation, non-myeloablative (“mini”) transplantation, and new drugs to treat leukemia. We have an experienced research team, including research nurses, pharmacists experienced in the handling of investigational agents, and laboratory personnel. Our physicians let patients know if they are eligible for an investigational clinical trial and patients are given extensive education regarding the potential risks and benefits of participating in a study.
