
BMT Program
The Blood & Marrow Transplant Program at Northside Hospital is recognized as a premier clinical transplant program and a leader in the Southeastern United States in providing state of the art care for patients undergoing transplantation and leukemia therapy. The scope of the program includes innovative clinical care services of blood/marrow transplantation and leukemia therapies which translate scientific investigations into clinical practice, supportive care strategies, and the operation of the Hemapheresis Center which conducts marrow, stem cell and cord blood ex vivo processing, platelet apheresis, and therapeutic apheresis for patients with immunologic and hematologic malignancies. The program consists of a nationally recognized and experienced staff and state of the art facilities. The supporting physical facilities include a HEPA-filtered bone marrow transplant unit, medical oncology unit, Hemapheresis Center, radiation oncology department, and dedicated HEPA air-filtered outpatient treatment center. Our commitment is to provide excellent service and exceptional care to each patient and their family. The BMT program at Northside Hospital is staffed with nationally recognized team of physicians, mid-level practitioners, nurses, care coordinators, pharmacists, dedicated health psychologist, nutritionists, physical therapists and ancillary support staff. Unlike many university based programs, our program does not employ inexperienced trainee resident and fellow physicians. Only highly qualified and seasoned transplant/leukemia physicians are employed and are on call and available 24-hours a day to patients and referring physicians.
The BMT Program is nationally accredited for performing autologous, allogeneic,
matched
unrelated
donor and cord blood transplantation by the Foundation for Accreditation
of Cellular Therapy(FACT), which is the primary organization that accredits
BMT programs in the United states. The program is also accredited by the
American Association of Blood Banking(AABB) and the National Marrow Donor
Program(NMDP). Our program has received many accolades including national
Center of Excellence recognition from the health care insurance industry.
The BMT Program at Northside Hospital is among the elite preferred Center
of Excellence transplant programs within the United States as designated
by essentially all of the national health care insurance companies, and serves
as a tertiary referral center for patients throughout Georgia and the Southeastern
United States.Our program’s
commitment to excellence is reflected in our low treatment related mortality
rates in comparison to national benchmarks and overall high patient satisfaction.
